I have actually relocated my FTP (running proftpd) server from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04 server and now there is a difficulty once connecting to it. In link log tright here is a line that says:

"Status: Server does not assistance non-ASCII characters."and also all files and folders that have non-ASCII characters cannot be downloaded.

You are watching: Server does not support non-ascii characters.

I can fix this client-site by establishing my FTP client (FileZilla for example) to explicitly use UTF-8 but the trouble will certainly still be tright here for others that connect to the FTP.

proftpd-basic/focal,now 1.3.6c-2 amd64 proftpd-doc/focal,now 1.3.6c-2 all proftpd-mod-mysql/focal,currently 1.3.6c-2 amd64 Does anyone understand what might be that reason for this error and also how it can be fixed?

Ok, I have uncovered the solution to this problem!

MultilineRFC2228 offbellow is part of the documentation around mod_core:

Question: When I affix to ProFTPD using FileZilla, I watch FileZillalog the complying with warning:

Status: Server does not support non-ASCII characters. also though Iprovided the --enable-nls build choice, and my ProFTPD supports UTF8. Whatis wrong?

Answer: FileZilla parses the FEAT response to identify whether theFTP server supports the UTF-8 encoding. However, the format of theFEAT response deserve to confusage FileZilla"s detection code. For example, ifyour proftpd.conf uses:

MultilineRFC2228 on

this reasons ProFTPD"s FEAT response format to be different thanFileZilla expects, which can cause the above "does not supportnon-ASCII characters" message.

The solution is to use:

MultilineRFC2228 off

in your proftpd.conf (or sindicate remove that directive entirely).
